Cardellino - Trust Restaurant Group | San Diego Restaurant Photographer

As a San Diego photographer, sometimes I think I’ve seen it all when it comes to cutting edge design. Through my work with Trust Restaurant Group, they’ve proven me wrong time and time again! Each one of their restaurants is a stunning take on what it means to create an electric atmosphere.

Once again, GTC Design partnered on the project to give a fresh look to the Cardellino Italian chophouse in Mission Hills. The new layout and moody vibe were created really deliberately, so it was essential the photos reflected it.

How I Planned This Restaurant Photography Shoot

Trust Restaurant Group has been one of my favorite partnerships because they constantly challenge my restaurant photography capabilities- especially with this shoot! We decided the moody atmosphere would be elevated even more during an evening shoot.

While nighttime restaurant photography shoots are some of my absolute favorites, they require a lot of planning. I utilized my 24mm tilt shift Canon lens to work with the cool angles and brought along two big Godox lights for a brighter touch.

I wanted to make sure the exterior detailing was an important highlight as well, so it was key to pre plan according to the sunset timing, along with having ample time for any hiccups along the road. Luckily, everything went off without a hitch!

Capturing The New Moody Atmosphere

The entire restaurant photoshoot centered around the moody atmosphere that GTC Design worked so hard to create. Every detail was placed intentionally, so I wanted to get as many into a singular shot as possible.

Cardellino Restaurant Table Warm Details That Establish Moody Atmosphere

Each one of their tables is created with different textures, materials, and colors to create subtle contrast between each piece. I utilized a low angle to be parallel to the dining room tables, and made sure to include the black and white accent wall in the background.

Highlighting The Hanging Light Fixtures

This shoot had me working with a lot of new angles I’ve never utilized before! The light fixtures were such a crucial part to the restaurant design, but required me to get crafty with a lot of down-low shots. My 24mm lens worked perfectly for these shoots by showing the details of the dining room below, while really working with the warm light of the wooden chandeliers. I loved how the end result turned out!

Haley’s Pro Tip: Get comfortable with being uncomfortable during shoots. Whether it’s working with new angles, getting on the floor, or twisting your body- get that shot!

Showcasing The Elaborate Bar

I’ve saved the best for last: the stunning bar! Of all the restaurant photography shoots I’ve been a part of, this bar may have been the coolest I’ve ever seen. That being said, these angles were really tricky.

The bar sits in the center of the restaurant, so getting a solo shot required a lot of trial and error. Eventually, everything lined up just right. I love the continuing black and white touches of the tile floor complimenting the leather chairs beautifully. The details in each section are incredible!

Haley Hill

I am Haley Hill, a thirty something year old Fuji photographer capturing all of the things; food, architecture, events, you name it, I’ll shoot it (except your wedding, I’ll leave that to Still Music). When I’m not snapping pics, you can find me in the ocean, at Corepower or rapping in my band Girlboy.
