White and Navy Kitchen Remodel | Real Estate Photographer San Diego
As a real estate photographer in San Diego, I see plenty of remodels - but this one truly took my breath away. Is there anything better than a fresh, new kitchen to bring a space to life? My client SJS Studios renovated the dated 1990’s vibe of this project into a fresh open concept with a family-friendly kitchen and family room.
These real estate photographs are going to be utilized across SJS Studios’ marketing materials not only for this project, but also as staple portfolio piece to demonstrate their remarkable talent!
How I Planned Out This Real Estate Photography Shoot:
As I was walking the property, I knew I wanted to focus on the kitchen and the family room specifically because those two rooms were the main areas that were remodeled. While I did provide a few images of the other spaces, I wanted to make sure the stunning features of the remodeled spaces were photographed from every angle possible.
I love when my clients give me full creative direction for how to best feature each space. It’s that level of trust that gives me the ability as their real estate photography to capture the room at its very best.
The White & Navy Kitchen
The kitchen island is obviously a huge part of the design so I wanted to capture the detail of it straight on and then also from each side to showcase the other angles of the kitchen as well. The kitchen has an overall bright and airy feel so I knew the cabinets and appliances would emphasize the final design.
White cabinets are a very popular design choice - and for good reason! They are truly a timeless design choice that pairs with so many aspects of the kitchen. What stood out to me both behind and in front of the camera was the bold navy blue island. It was the contrast that the room needed and that is portrayed very well in the images.
When photographing two varying colors, it’s important to understand exactly how the light will impact how the saturation appears in the camera. Getting it right in camera, meaning before editing happens, is something I always strive for as a professional photographer. While editing always can help, the colors read best if they photographed correctly.
The family room had these really cool built-in shelves that deserved to be highlighted individually. There were a couple of ways I brought in my creative expertise to highlight the new furniture up close, by adding the girl in the chair, it brought the human element to the p≠≠hoto so people can picture how it would feel reading in the family room by the window with all the natural light.
When it comes to projects like this I recommend getting it staged.
Haley’s pro tip: Staging with props like books, bowls of fruit, etc. creates a homey feel that helps people picture themselves living in the rooms and brings your photos to life!
