Cushman & Wakefield’s Kettner & Ash | San Diego Commercial Photography
No matter how many projects I shoot as a commercial photographer, I always think I’ve seen it all. While I’ve been fortunate enough to capture the design of many unique spaces, working with Cushman & Wakefield on their Kettner & Ash commercial space proved I can always be surprised by how creative an office can look.
This former US bank building has been renovated and revived from a single-tenant building and turned into a 21st-century multi-tenant workplace. These photographs are intended to display the thoughtful details throughout, while still remaining approachable to potential clients.
How I Planned This Commercial Photography Shoot
The goal of this commercial photoshoot was to capture the newly renovated lobby, rooftop, co-working space, LED digital atrium, offices, and cafe. With that newly renovated list to capture, I knew it was going to be a big task.
Each space required my careful eye to decide what lighting, angles, and camera work would be best to mimic its real life look. It took the entire day to utilize the perfect lighting, but the end results were so worth it!
Emphasizing The Stunning Art Installations
A big focus throughout the entire commercial photography shoot was to highlight the beautiful art installations throughout the building. The huge LED graphic wall in the atrium drew me in instantly, so that is where I started! I wanted the massive art piece to be the focus, but still incorporate the co-working space beneath it.
During the later part of the shoot, I took a cool night shot to show just how big and visible the LED wall was from outside. I loved how it looked combined with the hustle and bustle of the surrounding areas.
The lobby was also a big focus for installing art. I found the perfect angle that highlighted the cool artwork on the back wall as well as the massive pendant lights above the desk. I loved the neutral tones against the bright white wall.
Capturing The Perfect Shot In The Cafe
The cafe was more of a challenge to capture. It was full of people, so I had to get creative while navigating around to get the perfect shot. I went for a wider angle for shots that were further away, but also made sure to showcase how the cafe fit within the first floor and the lobby.
Haley’s Pro Tip: I recommend having people in cafe shots, especially if you are shooting it looking out into the street like I did here. It brings a sense of life to the space that emulates how a potential client would feel.
Highlighting The Commercial Amenities
Within every commercial space, amenities play a key role in attracting businesses and customers. I wanted to showcase all the planning that went into making amenities that were both functional and thoughtful.
When shooting a kitchen space within a commercial area, I love taking straight-on shots that make the cabinets and island appear parallel. With this kitchen specifically, making sure to include the hanging lighting created such a visually pleasing touch.
Finishing The Session With The Exterior
As the day of the shoot drew to a close, I knew the finishing touch would be to photograph the exterior of the building as the sun set. While the interior is modern with a touch of fun, I loved how the classic bank looked from the outside.
The neutral materials, combined with the bright sunset, created a stunning contrast that made the exterior shine.
Working on Cushman & Wakefield’s Kettner & Ash project was an absolute dream for a commercial photographer. If you’re interested in photographing your next commercial project, please don’t hesitate to reach out using this form here to inquire about upcoming availability.
