La Jolla Drive by B+H Advance Strategy | San Diego Office Photography
As a professional photographer I’ve worked on a lot of cool office spaces, but this shoot completely wowed me! I’ve been a fan of B+H Advance Strategy’s work for as long as I can remember, so being able to collaborate on their latest project is a dream come true.
Over the past few years, the idea of a typical office space has been completely flipped on its head and I absolutely love it. B+H took this opportunity to create a one-of-a-kind working environment that is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Without any further introduction, I can’t wait to show you all the details that went into the final shots!
How I Planned This Office Photography Shoot
For this shoot specifically, space was going to be both my greatest asset and largest challenge. The entire project was for a massive employee-base, so there was a lot of ground to cover. That being said, every space was so thoughtfully designed that it made for a lot of fun.
With every shoot I work on, lighting plays a key role in my decision-making process. Since this was only an interior shot, it was important to bring artificial lighting just in case the shots ended up dim. To see a complete list of everything I pack for a shoot, click here.
Utilizing Models To Emphasize The Space
Models are my best-kept secret (although I love to talk about it) when working in interior spaces. From the second I started planning La Jolla Drive, I knew models would really emphasize these large spaces and provide the perfect emphasis of what the working environment B+H Architects intended to create.
Haley’s Pro Tip: Have the models move! It creates a slightly blurred look, so it allows the eye to focus on the office interior photography without getting distracted by the people in the space.
Showcasing Color Throughout The Office
Personally, I am such a fan of color in any space I shoot, but most office spaces tend to stick to a more neutral, calming palette. Not La Jolla Drive! There were so many gorgeous pops of color in each of their working spaces, but it was designed in a really tasteful way.
My favorite use of color is in the chandelier made of sunglasses hanging above an open-concept working space. I’m a huge fan of the community that comes with these nontraditional seating arrangements, so combined with the color - it just looks so inviting.
Capturing The Cool Working Spaces
I know I already teased a few of the cool working spaces, but there is so much to talk about. It’s really evident how thoughtfully B+H crafted each space to have employee comfort first. My favorite of all is the marketplace!
If I was an employee, a feature like this would be top of my list. Everything is designed for easy grab-and-go, so it was important to highlight the overall space. I shot at a corner angle with the help of artificial lighting. The end result was perfect!
Highlighting The San Diego Art Influence
As a professional photographer, art has a special place in my heart. Seeing the San Diego art influence throughout was a really cool nod to the city we were in, but also added a sense of uniqueness to the space.
My favorite is the massive skateboard art piece hanging in the common space. It really emphasizes the relaxed coastal surf and skate vibe of the surrounding area while still remaining elevated.
