Logan Memorial Educational Campus featuring Parasoleil | San Diego Photographer

Oh my goodness - what a treat! A few weeks ago, I had the amazing opportunity to shoot with a client of mine, Parasoleil, at a location that means so much to the community - Logan Memorial Educational Campus. Parasoleil is a company that specializes in creating architectural panel systems with exclusive patterns, and I was hired to capture the beauty of their panels at this campus in Logan Heights, San Diego.

What Is Logan Memorial?

Logan Memorial Educational Campus, also called LMEC, consists of two schools, a middle school and a high school, both located right next to each other. LMEC is a San Diego-based Montessori school that is very well known in the community.

Photographing exteriors - what could go wrong?

The challenge for me as a San Diego photographer was to capture the exterior of the campus in the best light possible, since this was an entirely outdoor shoot. This meant that I had to chase the sun throughout the half-day shoot to get the different panels in the perfect brightness. It takes years of practice to learn the patterns of light and how they will impact the end result. I was really excited to flex my skills in this area and I just love the end result.

The beautiful panels were the star of the show!

One of the most interesting things about this shoot was the use of different colored panels on each building. The elementary school was constructed with teal panels while the high school was adorned with yellow panels. From the front entrance gates to the walls and gates inside the courtyards, each panel had intricate patterns like a sun, birds, and even a skull. These patterns really stood out against the wooden surroundings, making the buildings look even more unique and eye-catching.

In addition to the smaller panels, there were a few gigantic panels on the outside of each building that really caught my eye. No matter how many works of art I get to see as a San Diego photographer, architecture installations always wow me. They were truly awe-inspiring, and I knew I had to do them justice with my photography.

Inside the high school, there was a courtyard of shade structures that cast some really cool shadowed patterns on the ground when the sun shone through them. I took full advantage of this by capturing these unique patterns in my shots.

Exterior Photography Equipment

Being a San Diego photographer, I try to remain as flexible as possible with such strong lighting, so equipment options are key. I mostly used my trusty Canon 24mm Tilt shift lens for this shoot as it was wide enough to capture the paneling and give me the perfect shot. I also took a few detail shots with my Fuji camera to showcase the cool patterns and shapes within the paneling.

There were so many different areas on the campus that had these beautiful panels, and I felt like I was able to truly capture their beauty and uniqueness. I hope you enjoyed hearing about Logan Memorial and seeing these beautiful panels as much as I enjoyed taking the photos. If you’re ever in need of a San Diego photographer, please don’t hesitate to reach out- I’m looking forward to working on a project together!
