Taylor Brooke Apartments Clubhouse | San Diego Residential Photography
As a residential photographer in San Diego, one of the highlights of my job is witnessing architecture inspired by a specific style. While I’ve shot almost every design style imaginable, it felt extra special to be able to work with CEG Multifamily and Ritual Architecture on capturing their unique vision at Taylor Brooke Apartments.
The architectural bones of Taylor Brooke are in the hacienda style of Vista’s roots as a ranching town. These residential photos are intended for their marketing of this stunning space, but also to advertise their portfolio as a whole!
How I Planned This Residential Photography Shoot
The goal both we wanted to achieve is highlighting the beauty and hard work put into the entire design. The clubhouse totes white stucco walls, a clay tile roof, and exposed wood framing. They used bright, natural wall colors and added exposed wood beams to the ceiling with clay tiles for the hearth and backsplash. With such a bright color palette, I wanted natural lighting to emphasize what the exact tones would look like in person.
I knew this shoot was all about finding the right angles, but every corner of the clubhouse was an Instagrammable moment so there wasn’t any angle that wouldn’t capture some cool part of the interiors.
Focusing On The Clubhouse Details
I focused on making sure I captured each area, and the details they all have. The clubhouse had three main sections: the kitchen and table, two entrance tables to reflect different seating options, and then most importantly the middle living area with the couch and fireplace. While the entire space was one cohesive unit, for this residential shoot I chose to embrace each section for its unique features.
Using my creative eye, I wanted to create additional intrigue within each photo by focusing on the small details. Books and other staging pieces in the rooms give the lived-in feel for potential buyers to resonate with, so capturing them in an organic way is essential.
Haley’s Pro Tip: Don’t be afraid to try different angles for details! Many times it can be easy to just shoot close up, but wide angles can highlight details just as well. By shooting a combination of both wide angles and closer shots, I was able to perfectly capture all the hard work that went into creating this stunning clubhouse.
Highlighting The Exposed Beams
The exposed beams were obviously a highlight of the design so I tried to incorporate them into as many of the wide-angle shots as possible. What I loved the most was how the contrast between the brown and bright white shot when natural light hit it correctly.
In order to photograph the exposed beams in a natural way, I needed to angle the camera slightly higher than normal. While this may sound simple, perfecting the right tilt that still displays the rest of the space is necessary in a residential photographer. With my expertise, each exposed beam shot came out perfectly!
Shooting The Exterior Of The Clubhouse
The final step of this project was to nail the perfect exterior shot of the white stucco walls and clay tile roof. Although I love living in sunny California, the bright sun can be a challenge when shooting exterior residential photography. In order to capture the true look of the clubhouse, I used the shade of nearby trees and pose-editing for the brightness.
This entire project was such a fun reminder of the joy residential photography brings to both myself and the client. If you’re interested in photographing any of your current residential projects, please don’t hesitate to reach out using this form!
