Town Centre Drive | Kilroy Realty & DPA Fine Project | San Diego Exterior Photography

Exterior photography presents unique challenges, especially when weather conditions aren’t ideal, but that’s all part of the fun!

We recently had the opportunity to photograph two buildings at Town Centre Drive for Kilroy Realty and DPA Fine Art Consulting, located in San Diego. This project required aerial photography to capture the expansive exteriors and detailed shots that showcased the architectural design and surrounding art sculptures.

Despite the cloudy skies and a little rain, the results turned out beautifully, thanks to careful planning and the power of post-production. As a San Diego architectural photographer, I’m used to adapting to unpredictable weather, and this project was a prime example of that flexibility paying off.

PLANNING THE EXTERIOR PHOTOGRAPHY SHOOT

Kilroy Realty is known for its forward-thinking architectural designs, and working on this project with DPA Fine was an exciting challenge. Our goal was to emphasize both the scale and the details of these two stunning buildings through a combination of aerial and ground-level exterior photography. We wanted to ensure that the buildings’ clean lines, expansive glass windows, and modern aesthetic were captured from every possible angle.

For this shoot, we focused on several key aspects:

• Aerial views that show the overall layout of the site and surrounding areas

• Ground-level shots to highlight the architectural details and textures

• Integrating the art sculptures into the shots to create a cohesive visual story

Emphasizing Art and Sculptures

One unique feature of the Town Centre Drive project is the integration of DPA Fine’s art sculptures into the landscape. We made it a point to highlight these art installations in the exterior shots, showing how they blend seamlessly with the modern architecture. This fusion of art and architecture is a signature of Kilroy Realty’s developments, and we wanted to make sure it stood out in the final images.

The sculptures add a dynamic layer to the overall environment, which helped create visually compelling compositions that emphasized the balance between the built and natural elements of the property.

We love working with Interior Designers, Architecture Firms, Engineers, Real Estate Developers, and Construction Businesses to capture the latest and greatest buildings.

While we’re based out of San Diego, California, you can frequently catch us traveling to work with new clients.

Using Aerial Photography to Highlight Scale

A significant part of this project was capturing the sheer scale of the development through aerial photography. Using a drone, we was able to photograph the two buildings from above, providing a bird’s-eye view of the entire complex.

This technique is crucial in commercial and office photography as it not only shows the architectural design but also how the buildings interact with the surrounding environment.

Aerial photography is essential for larger projects like this because it provides a perspective that ground-level shots can’t always achieve. It helped highlight the sprawling layout and interconnectedness of the buildings, offering a full picture of the design vision.

Working with Kilroy Realty and DPA Fine at Town Centre Drive was a rewarding experience, despite the challenges presented by the weather. A big congratulations to Steinberg Hart for their well-deserved award! From aerial views to detailed shots of the sculptures, this project was a great opportunity to showcase what we offer at Haley Hill Photography as San Diego’s architectural photographer.
