Hales Residence by EarthTek Construction | San Diego Landscape Photography
It does not matter how many landscape photography shoots I work on, I’m forever in awe with how an exterior can transform. Each landscape seems to call for its own unique theme and Earth Tek Construction takes this very seriously.
This charming San Diego home transports anyone to a feeling of comfort and wonder with nods to a Secret Garden feel. These photos are not just to display the beautiful Hales Residence in its finished state, but to showcase the options available to clients who work with Earth Tek Construction!
How I Planned This Landscape Photography Shoot
Just like the name alludes, landscape photography is a completely outdoor photoshoot. While all projects have their challenges I needed to plan ahead for the ideal lighting to ensure this shoot was a success.
I chose to photograph Hales Residence just before golden hour in the afternoon. While I toyed with the morning or just before dusk, I wanted the photos to display the warmth and homey feel Earth Tek Construction worked so hard to create.
There’s just something about landscape photography that really excites me. I love the creativity that tricky lighting brings out, plus being out in nature creates the most calming photoshoot atmosphere. Needless to say, I had been looking forward to this project for weeks!
Highlighting The Rock Elements
One of the most important elements Earth Tek Construction wanted to showcase is their extensive rock detailing. There were several different features throughout the exterior, but everything remained cohesive with the use of the same light gray stone.
What stood out to me the most was the home’s support beams, ordained with a gray rock scheme, on the bottom half of each pillar. I chose to shoot from a corner so each shot could display the rock, white paint, and the beautiful green exterior of the home.
One of the most charming features throughout the entire property was the rock path installed from the front to the back of the home. I opted for a slightly tilted angle to make the photos feel like we were being led to where the path continues.
Capturing The Secret Garden Feel
Earth Tek Construction seemed to put a little extra magic into the landscaping they installed- it felt like the Secret Garden! I wanted to capture this very comforting feeling through soft light and letting the lush plants shine.
The path leading around the side of the home was lined with the most beautiful plants I’ve ever seen. I chose to shoot from eye-level, letting the stunning view do most of the work.
After seeing the path lead to a beautiful patio, I wanted to showcase the full bushes shielding the exterior from the busy California neighborhood. I opted to have one of the benches in front act as a height comparison to display just how large each plant was.
Focusing On The Inviting Backyard
This backyard was built for the endless hosting of family and fun, so I wanted to ensure the sheer size available to entertain was captured. It truly felt like the ultimate space to have a good time outdoors.
The patio was specifically designed for grilling in mind, so I shot with a wide angle at eye-level to photograph all the space available. I just love how the black and silver metal contrast the sweeping green trees planted behind. It’s absolutely stunning.
The yard itself is the size fit to host a soccer game, so I knew the photos needed to detail the rolling greens available. I shot with my back to the edge of the property, making it easy to understand truly how much space is available.
Haley’s Helpful Hint: Do not be afraid of wide angles! They are popular for a reason, so step back (and step back again) to truly capture the entire space in front of you. This is my number one tip for anyone interested in landscape photography- just try it out and see how it goes!
